Our story began back in 2008 in Houston, Texas. Maria Elena Norman was new to the United States and, with a limited visa, little understanding of the English language and no car, she spent most of her day at home. To help her pass the time, her husband purchased a few basic scrapbooking supplies and introduced Maria Elena to the world of scrapbooking. Over the years Maria Elena gained a strong passion for scrapbooking and paper crafts mastering numerous techniques through conferences, expos, and YouTube.
Maria Elena's passion was only limited by one thing: money. With her husband still a full-time student, Maria Elena's scrapbooking budget was small. When their family moved to Utah to finish her husband's education, Maria Elena began looking for Warehouse sales, yard sales, and anywhere else she could to find a good deal on the supplies that she needed for her new techniques and interests. The hunt for the best deals became a game for her that continued even after her husband graduated from college.
One of Maria Elena's defining characteristics is her passion for helping others. As she would find amazing deals on scrapbooking supplies, Maria Elena would phone all of her friends, collect orders, and buy supplies for everyone so that they could all share in the savings. But this wasn't enough for her. She often reflected on the limited resources that she had living in Houston and how hard it must be for others outside of Utah to find the same discounts and deals on scrapbooking and paper crafting supplies that she was so accustomed to here. She wondered if there wasn't a way she could share her discounts with even more people outside of her small circle of friends. That is how ThriftyScrapper.com was born. In 2016, Maria Elena and her husband Tory worked together to launch ThriftyScrapper.com as a way to extend the Warehouse sales and second-hand market for scrapbooking and papercrafts to the World Wide Web in the hopes that these savings could inspire more people in other states to take up scrapbooking and get creative.
